Lawrence Kenneth Buchanan, age 88, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley. He was born December 31, 1915 in Hamilton, WA the son of Leonard and Mollie Burleson Buchanan. Lawrence was a longtime resident of Rockport until moving to Sedro-Woolley ten years ago. He worked as a tree topper, high rigger, and yarding engineer in the woods for many years until later working as an iron worker and rigger in dam construction on the upper Skagit Valley. Lawrence was married to Hazel Walker in Burlington, WA in 1951 and she preceded him in death in 1984. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army and was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Heskett Arnold Post # 132 American Legion of Concrete. Lawrence was a member of the Iron Workers Union and he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching baseball.
He is survived by his daughters Judy Hollingsworth and her husband Ian of Ramona, CA and Candace Hockett and her husband Orville of Sedro-Woolley and a son Don Kaminski and his wife Shawnie of Mount Vernon. 6 grandchildren Todd and Nate Hollingsworth, Chad and Brett Hockett, and Brian Kaminski and Jennifer Wilson. 8 great grandchildren Davis Hollingsworth, Casey and Kellie Monroe, Aiden Wilson, Alex Hockett, Emma Nixon, and Kylie and Cade Hockett. A sister Myrtle O’Brien of Burlington and two brothers Dode Buchanan of Sedro-Woolley and Mick Buchanan of Lyman. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, a sister Edna Porter, and four brothers Bill, Rusty, Ralph, and Skinney Buchanan.
Graveside Services will be Friday, December 10, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Jim Shaw of the Faith Baptist Church of Skagit Valley of Burlington officiating. Military Honors will be provided by George Baldridge Post #31 American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday December 9th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, December 10th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel.
