LOUIE F. COLOMBI, 86, a brief resident of Lyman and a former Renton area resident, passed away at his son’s home in Lyman on Tuesday February 4, 2003 following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born on January 9, 1917 in Renton, WA, the son of Frank & Teresa Nicoli Colombi. He was raised and attended school in Renton, graduating from Renton High School in 1934. In 1935 he began working for Pacific Car & Foundry in Renton, where he worked designing and constructing molds for various types of metal manufacturing. He retired as a Master Molder after over 40 years of service. He later taught Foundry Practices at Seattle Community College for 5 years. He was united in marriage to Marguerite ‘Margie’ Hill on April 15, 1941 in Renton, and there made their home. Louie was well educated, he had the courage of his convictions and always stood up for his beliefs. He was an avid reader and fisherman, fishing rivers all over the Northwest for salmon and steelhead. He also enjoyed his garden and many fruit trees and sharing those bounties with his friends. He was a longtime and active member of the Molder & Core Makers Union.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Frank Colombi and his wife Liz of Lyman, Samuel Colombi of Seattle and Robert Colombi of Renton. 2 grandchildren, Samuel Colombi, Jr. and his wife Meg of Bellevue and Nichole Colombi of Sedro-Woolley. 2 great-grandsons, Michael & Joseph Colombi. 2 sisters, Santina Nicoli of Abazzia, Italy and Loretta Barton of Kent, WA. Also numerous nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful fishing buddies. Louie was preceded in death by his wife Margie in 2001, his parents, a brother Leon and 2 sisters, Ollie and Eda.
Louie’s family wishes to acknowledge and thank all the staff at Skagit Hospice and suggest that memorials be made to Skagit Hospice, PO Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. At his request there will be no funeral services. Cremation arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
