Lucella N. Lindsay, 69, a member and resident of the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2008 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on October 12, 1939 in Concrete, WA, the daughter of Joseph & Susan Fornsby Williams. She was raised and attended school in Concrete, graduating from Concrete High School in 1957 where she was a drummer in the school band.
After graduation she worked as a nurse’s aid in local nursing homes until going to Redwood City, California where she earned a nursing degree. Lucella worked as a L.P.N. at Providence Hospital in Seattle and then at Providence Hospital in Everett until 1975.
In 1976 she met Elmer Lindsay and they were together for eight years until marrying in 1984.
In 1976 Lucella worked at the state fish hatchery near Hamilton until moving to Denver, Colorado in 1980 where she worked as a legal secretary until she and Elmer moved to Minneapolis in 1983 and she worked as a secretary for a local Indian Center. In 1986 they returned to the Skagit Valley and she worked for the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe as a fisheries technician and fished commercially with her family.
Family has always been important to Lucella; her parents passed away when she and her siblings were young so she was a second mom to her younger brothers and sisters and she was always doing things with Elmer.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer at the family home in Sedro-Woolley.
Two daughters, Martina Lindsay of San Francisco, CA and Carla Ricker of Poplar, Montana. One brother, Merle Williams, Sr. of Marysville. Three sisters, Betty Dick and Marilyn Rock of Sedro-Woolley and Barbara Williams of Mount Vernon; 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lucille Williams and five brothers, George, Joe, John, Thomas and baby boy Williams.
A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 6:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM
at the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe Gymnasium in Sedro-Woolley with Pastors Merle Williams, Sr. and Danny Lindsay officiating. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Indian Cemetery.
