Mamie Alice Stiles, 79, a 55-year resident of Lyman, WA died on June 8, 2005. Her parents were James and Laura Peggy Gregory Ammons of Franklin, NC. She was born December 31, 1925, in Franklin, NC.

She began working at 17-years old at the cotton mill in South Carolina. Later she moved to Skagit County and worked at the Northern State Hospital. On January 28, 1949, she was married to John Harrell Stiles in Darrington, WA.

She won the women’s log bucking contest at the Darrington timber bowl in 1951. She also served as the Sedro Woolley Loggerrodeo queen during that time.

She also worked in the local cannery until she retired at the age of 67. During her retirement she enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, and being with friends and family. She especially enjoyed cooking and watching people eat! Even through several very serious illnesses, she always had a great sense of humor and a ready smile.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harrell, in 1970, and her granddaughter, Jenny in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Elaine McKibbin and her husband, Lyle, of Florence, OR, Wayne Stiles and his wife, Lori, of Lyman, WA, Dean Stiles and his wife, Diane, of Lyman, WA, Debbie Wobbe and her husband, Mike, of Eugene, OR, and her grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason and his wife, Rhea, Kristy and her husband, Warren, Mark and his wife, Jennifer, Laura, Richard, Bethany, Jeannette and her husband, Silas, Julie, Benson, Kari, Marissa, and Kathryn. She was also very proud of her eight great grandchildren. Four sisters, Rhoda Price of Redmond, OR, Lelia Adams of Franklin, NC, Myrtle Frisbee of Sedro-Woolley, Cora Holland of Franklin, NC and one brother Fred Ammons of Travelers Rest, SC. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton First Baptist Church where she was a charter member.

Graveside Services will be Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 10;00 AM with a Memorial Service to follow at the Hamilton Baptist Church at Noon with Pastor Ron Edwards officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2005 from Noon to 5:00 PM at Lemley Chapel. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
