Maria Nancy Omdal

Friday, November 12th, 2004

MARIA NANCY OMDAL passed away nine days short of her 82nd birthday on Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
Marie was born on November 21, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, to Italian immigrant parents Emilio and Melchiora Prestia Dell’Orto.
Maria cherished her Italian heritage, and she was very proud to tell you she was a first generation Italian/American citizen.
Maria was educated in New York, graduating from Bushwick High School in 1941. As a young woman, she worked for the New York Mercantile as a receptionist and secretary. During World War II, Maria met Stanley Omdal from Bow, Washington, at a USO club in New York City. Shortly thereafter, Stanley left for the European theater of WW II, resulting in a two-year letter writing courtship. Maria and Stanley married on October 30, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, following his return from the service.
Maria and Stanley’s first home was in Pullman, Washington, while Stanley finished college at WSU. Maria and Stanley finally settled in Sedro-Woolley where they raised their two daughters, Nancy Mimi and Cynthia Marie.
Maria enjoyed being a homemaker and a mother in what she affectionately called, ‘The Leave It To Beaver’ days. Maria also enjoyed cooking, reading, shopping, and gardening. In 1979 Maria and Stanley moved to Burlington to enjoy retired life. You could often find her puttering around in her yard, moving rocks and creating wonderful new rock gardens.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Fred, and her daughter, Nancy Omdal Moller.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Stanley. Her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia & Dennis Brune of Anacortes. Grandson, Adam Moller of Bellingham. Granddaughter, Alison Moller of Sedro-Woolley. Son-in-law, Les Moller of Burlington and numerous extended family members in and out of the Skagit Valley.
Private inurnment services will be held at the Bow Cemetery on Saturday November 20, 2004, followed by a public remembrance gathering at the Edison Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall at 12:00 PM to celebrate Maria’s life.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the Nancy Moller Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Bay View Elementary School PTA, 1323 Wilson Road, Burlington, WA 98233 or the Sedro-Woolley Schools Foundation, 801 Trail Road, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at United General Hospital and the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley for their exceptional care of Maria. A very special thank you on Maria’s behalf to Dr. Luther and his staff for their kindness and assistance during this very difficult time.
Arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
