MARILYN ELLEN BERG, 76, a longtime resident of the Concrete community, passed away on Thursday October 2, 2003 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley following a courageous battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born on June 5, 1927 in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of Russell & Lottie Haugen Mackey. She was raised and attended school in Devils Lake.
She was united in marriage to Sten Thomas Berg, Sr. in Sidney, Montana on February 5, 1946 and they made their home in Seattle. For 15 years Marilyn worked recording documents for the Engineering Dept of Boeing in Renton. She also worked as a head cook at fishing camps in Naknek, AK during the fishing season. In 1970 she and Sten moved to Concrete and Marilyn worked as a cook for the Concrete School District for 13 years. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Aerie 1444 in Concrete.
She was a gentle and loving wife, mother and grandmother and was loved by everyone who knew her. She will deeply missed.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Sten. Her children, Sten Thomas Berg, Jr. and his wife Pam of Redmond, WA, Margo Ellen Berg of Naples, FL and Mark Allen Berg and wife Joan of Concrete, WA. 7 grandchildren, Christian and Shauna Smith, Larse, Brittani and Lea Berg, Michelle Moody and Kim Berg-Stoll. 5 great-grandchildren. 1 brother, Buster Mackey of Minot, ND, a sister, Lois Engeland of Renton, WA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests memorials to North Puget Oncology, 1415 E. Kincaid, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 or by doing an act of kindness they believe most appropriate for someone.
A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday October 11, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Ron Wheeler of The Gathering, officiating.
