Marjorie Irene Button, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, Washington.

She was born on March 5, 1921 on Orcas Island, Washington to David and Vivenne Jarmin Nicol. Marjorie was raised and attended school on Orcas Island and graduated from Orcas Island High School. She then attended business college in Bellingham for one year.

Marjorie was married to Alvin ‘Elliott’ Button on October 12, 1940 in Bellingham. From 1945 to 1975, she and Elliott resided at the Seattle City Light Camps at Newhalem and Diablo and then moved to Sedro-Woolley. For the past three years she has resided at Country Meadows Retirement Community.

Marjorie was an active member of the Clear Lake Community Covenant Church for many years and also attended services at Country Meadows under the ministry of Stan Wing.

Marjorie worked during the summers as a waitress at the City Light Camps and Rosario and the Bungalow on Orcas Island. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, reading, and cooking. Marjorie loved to watch the Price Is Right and Family Feud on television and she was an avid Mariner’s fan.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Judith K. Bates and her husband Ron of La Conner and her son, David E. Button and his wife Jane of Burlington. Her grandchildren, Whitney Button of Portland, Christopher Ambrose of Spokane, Alexandra Ambrose-Nelson of California and great-grandchildren, Jeremy Cantrell of Omak and Ana Jane Nelson of California. Also Whitney’s mother, Margaret Bridge of Sedro-Woolley. Her brothers, Fred Nicol and his wife, Peggy and Jim Nicol and his wife, Binka of Orcas Island; a cousin, Art Reddick of Lynnwood and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elliott in 2004 and a grandson, Tony Button.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Clear Lake Community Covenant Church with Pastor Tim Hedberg officiating. Inurnment will be at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Clear Lake Community Covenant Church.
