Marjorie S. Ketcham, age 85, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon, WA. She was born January 3, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Carl R. and Minnie Culver Sundstrom. Marjorie was raised in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago and attended school there. She graduated from Kalamazoo College with a B.A.degree in History in 1941. She was married to John L. ‘Jack’ Ketcham on August 16, 1947 in Chicago.
After living in Indianapolis for a short time, she moved to the San Francisco area where her husband Jack was a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 1948, they moved to Seattle, living there until Jack’s retirement. While living in Seattle, Marjorie worked as a secretary for the Shoreline School District.
In 1973, they moved to their vacation/retirement home on the Skagit River near Concrete, WA and from 1974-1986, she served as the Town Librarian in Concrete. In 1977, they decided to see the rest of the world and they had many wonderful trips to some 40 countries as well as making friends where ever they went. After the 1995-96 floods on the Skagit River, they moved to Mount Vernon, WA. Marjorie was a former member and past president of the Upper Skagit Garden Club and a former member of the Friends of the Library in Mount Vernon.
She is survived by her husband John L. ‘Jack’ Ketcham of Mount Vernon and beloved daughter Martha of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Carl C. Sundstrom Jr. and Robert Sundstrom.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel , Sedro-Woolley with Doris Mears, a close friend of Marjorie’s, officiating. Private interment services will be at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete. Memorials are suggested to the Mount Vernon Library.
