Martin Budzius, a resident of Mount Vernon for the past 18 years, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at his home at the age of 100 years.
He was born November 11, 1904 in Vilnius, Lithuania, the son of Charles and Telka Budzius.
Martin came to the United States in 1914, living in Chicago and Indiana until moving to Seattle. He resided in the Seattle area for many years, working as a supervisor for Carnation, later known as Associated Grocers, until moving to Mount Vernon in 1987.
He was united in marriage to Velva Kemmer in May of 1964, in the Georgetown area of Seattle.
Martin enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling and watching sports, especially Notre Dame football and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his son, Marty T. Budzius and his wife, Patty of Issaquah. Step-daughters, Ione K. Whipple and her husband, Harry of Gilbert, AZ and Jone J. Balusek and her husband, Dervie of Lancaster, TX; step-sons, Donald Fowler of Mount Vernon and Curtis H. Fowler, II and his wife, Lynette of Cle Elum, WA. 3 grandchildren, Chris Budzius, Angie Heimbigner and her children, Cameron, Cole, and Conner, and Daniel Bouley and his wife, Corrie and their children Autumn, Wren, Sam, Chelsea, Alexas, and Summer Raine’. 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Velva in May of 2002, and 3 brothers Eddie, Joe, and Johnny.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Linda Larson of Bow, WA officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation is available Sunday, June 12th from 11 AM until service time. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice.
