Mary Lou Hauenstein, a 66 year resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2004 at her home at the age of 68 years. She was born October 15, 1935 in Sylva, North Carolina, the daughter of Grady and Gladys Gunter Queen. Mary Lou grew up in Sedro-Woolley where she attended school and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the Class of 1954.
She was united in marriage to Lyle Hauenstein on July 16, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley.
Mary Lou worked for 30 years for the City of Sedro-Woolley as a clerk for the sewer and garbage department and later as deputy city clerk, retiring in November of 2001.
She was a former member of Soroptimist International, served on the Library Board, was a member of the National Humane Society, the American Legion, the Women’s National Bowling Association, the Sedro-Woolley Alumni and was Treasurer of Compassionate Friends. Mary Lou also loved to travel, especially with her niece, Sheri, and her sister-in-law, Judy.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Terry Hauenstein and her 2 grandchildren, Jeffery and Jason Hauenstein, all of Birdsview. Her brother, Ronald Queen and his wife, Judy of Sedro-Woolley. A special niece and nephew, Sheri Hudson and her husband, Randy of Sedro-Woolley and Ryan Queen and his wife, Kim of Marysville. Great-nephews and niece, Matthew and Meghan Hudson and Ethan Queen. Numerous other nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, in 1989 and her son, Gregory, in 1984.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 3:00 pm at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Bill Heberling of the Church of Christ of Bow, WA officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology or the Humane Society. Arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-woolley.
