Mary R. Ashe, 92, a 66 year resident of the Alger community, passed away at her home on Monday, July 31, 2006 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 17, 1914 in Haywood County, North Carolina, the daughter of Will & Sudie Wyatt Shuler.
Mary came to Skagit County in 1936. On December 11, 1939 she was united in marriage to Charlie Ashe and together they made their home in Alger for 48 years until his death in 1988.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by her son, Charles ‘Bud’ Ashe, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Birdsview. 4 daughters, Bessie Ells of Port Orchard, WA, Susie Polinder of Ferndale, WA, Alice ‘Babe’ Clark and her husband, Henry and Willamae Warren, all of Alger. 2 brothers, Roy Shuler of Bremerton and Wayne Shuler and his wife, Lorna of Sedro-Woolley. 2 sisters, Madie Chapman of Waynesville, NC and Maize Rogers and her husband, Frank of Port Angeles, WA. 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by 2 infant sons, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 3 sons-in-law, 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Memorials are suggested to the Alger Fire Department Assoc., 1666 Parkview Lane, Burlington, WA 98233.
Graveside services will he held on Monday, August 7, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington with Pastor Rich DeRuiter of the Alger Community Christian Reformed Church officiating. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
