Phyllis Jean Holland Bergstedt peacefully left us on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the age of 86 years old.  The world became brighter on January 2, 1938, in Cruso, North Carolina, where Phyllis was born to Clifford and Lulu Belle Holland.

At the age of 13, Phyllis and her family moved from Franklin, North Carolina, to Sedro-Woolley (Big Lake), Washington in the summer of 1951.  She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1955.  In 1961, Phyllis married the cutest and smartest Skiyou boy, Donald Bell Bergstedt.  Phyllis continued her education at Skagit Valley College successfully completing the nursing program and worked in the operating room at United General Hospital.  Donald and Phyllis raised their two daughters on the Bergstedt Family Farm and were happily married for a wonderful 48 years upon Donald’s passing on March 15, 2009.

Phyllis’s greatest joy was her family and she loved us ferociously.  She was a very private person – don’t ask and don’t tell.  She was an avid reader, sewer, knitter and gardener (especially in her private peony patch).  Even the hummingbirds adored Phyllis and she loved them right back.  In fact, Phyllis performed CPR on an injured hummingbird.  And yes, it lived!  She was the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Dina (Ray) Fox and Dianne Bergstedt; brother, Lee (Joyce) Holland; grandkids, Kelsey Fox (Casey) Sousa, Gunnar (Andrea) Fox, Peter and Jenny Carrier.

Phyllis is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Donald Bell Bergstedt; parents, Clifford and Lula Belle Holland; sisters, Norma Holland Keill and Ernestine Holland Fortune; brother, Harris Holland.

Per Phyllis’ request, there will be no memorial service, but the family will have a private graveside service celebrating her life.  Share your memories of Phyllis and sign the online guest register.
