Richard Irvin Pemmant

Saturday, January 24th, 2004

Richard ‘Dick’ Irvin Pemmant, 62, passed away peacefully on the early morning of January 24, 2004 following an extended battle with cancer. He was at home with his family at the time. For as much as he loved history, for his own, he’d probably want us to keep it as short and sweet as possible.
Dick was born in Seattle, WA on March 9, 1941 to Zellarose Stafford and Lester E. Pemmant. The family moved to Concrete, WA and there he graduated from Concrete High School in 1959. This is about the time that he entered the Baker River Ranger District in June of 1959, working in the woods he loved for 33 years as a surveyor until he left Mt. Baker Ranger District in November of 1992. To call Dick a ‘Mountain Man’ would be an understatement; he knew every trail, hell, he built most of them, he was the mountain. As Mr. Pemmant grew older, he swapped his backpack and hatchet for his boat the ‘No Sea Um’ and some downriggers. Dick loved to fish and he loved the San Juan Islands. He’d want us to wrap it up at about this point.
Dick is survived by Betty Crippen which he would say ‘put up with him’ on Dunlop St for 8 great years where he lived. His eldest son Brett and his wife Kim Pemmant of Arlington, WA, his middle son Bart Pemmant of Concrete, WA, and his youngest son Rick Pemmant of Seattle, WA. Grandchildren Eli, Danae, Justine, and Louden Pemmant, and Tiffany and Kevin McAfee. His sister Vivian and her husband Grady Banks of Shelton, WA and former wives Nancy Parker of Concrete, WA, Elsie Pemmant of Bellingham, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. Not to mention many friends, scallywags, cronies, and general riff-raff who’s lives he touched in so many ways. His initials R.I.P. which brand many a tree in those hills, will finally ring true. Rest in Peace. We love you Dad, you will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004 beginning at 2:00PM at Dick’s Shop at 930 Dunlop St Sedro-Woolley. Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology, Sedro-Woolley. Arrangements and cremation under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. You are invited to share your thoughts and memories of Dick by signing our online guestbook at www.lemleychapel.com
