Richard M. Thompson, age 81, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA. He was born February 27, 1923 in Warren, Pennsylvania to Blair and Jane Langworthy Thompson. Richard grew up in Warren, PA attending school and graduating from high school in 1941. He served during WWII with the US Navy as a hospital corpsman with the 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific. After the war, he attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA graduating with a B.S. in Commerce. Richard was married to Virginia Anderson on September 6, 1947 in
Warren, PA. In 1951, he began working for Nationwide Insurance for 32 years retiring as a Master Adjustor. During the years spent in Kane, PA, Richard was active in his church and community activities and was a member and past president of Kiwanis and a lifetime member of the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, gardening, but most of all he enjoyed the outdoors. Richard moved to Skagit County in 1988 and for the past eight years has resided in Sedro-Woolley. He is survived by his wife Virginia Thompson of the family home in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Two sons Richard Jr. and his wife Margaret Thompson of Seattle, WA and David Scott and his wife Sylvia Thompson of Clear Lake, WA. Granddaughter Andrea and her husband Todd Wright of Clear Lake, WA. Brother Allan and his wife Evelyn Thompson of Warren, PA and a sister-in-law Joan Thompson of Warren, PA and numerous nieces. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald.
Private Inurnment Committal Services will be held Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorial Services to follow at 2:00PM at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Blackburn Rd in Mount Vernon, WA with Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Memorials are suggested to First Evangelical Lutheran Church 2015 Blackburn Rd Mount Vernon, WA or Skagit Hospice. Arrangements under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.
