Samuel D. Whitacre, 81, of Sedro-Woolley died Wednesday, August 25 at Burton’s Nursing Home in Burlington. Born May 9, 1923, in Aberdeen, WA, he had lived in Sedro-Woolley for the past 46 years. He was a graduate of the University of Washington and served during WW II aboard a PT boat in the South Pacific. His careers included owning a newspaper, the Burlington Farm Journal, teaching elementary school in Darrington, Concrete, and Clear Lake. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, the Skagit County Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion. Surviving are a daughter, Anne Whitacre of Seattle, a step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Susan and Paul Bergman of Burlington, and three grandchildren, Erik Bergman of Burlington, Jennifer Thomas of Richardson, TX, and Kim Eddings of Chino Hills, CA and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agatha, and a step-son James. There will be no funeral services at his request.
