Sharolyn ‘Nicki’ Lee Groves went Home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, her family was by her side.
Sharolyn was born in Bassett, Nebraska, the second child of seven, to Vern and Loretta Grenier.
She arrived in the Skagit Valley in 1955 at the age of 15 when her parents moved the family from Nebraska. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1958.
Sharolyn met and married Charles William Groves in 1957. After graduating high school she spent much of the next 40 years as an Army wife traveling the world over. In between Bill’s two tours of Vietnam, while waiting for him to return, she received her private pilot’s license. In 1981 while they were stationed in Germany she became a member of the Berlin Dancing Bears, a square dancing club that became the only square dancing group to dance behind the Iron Curtain. While stationed in Italy, she learned to repel off the high cliffs in Vincenza. After retiring from the military in 1979, Sharolyn moved her family back to the Skagit Valley where she went to work for the National Bank of Commerce until 1989. She then went to work for Dynacare Lab until retiring in 2007.
After arriving back in the Skagit Valley, Sharolyn joined the Kahala group of Hawaiian dancers, where she performed all over the Valley for many years. She loved reading, dancing, shopping and especially her children and grandchildren.
Sharolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Loretta Grenier and her older sister, Patricia White of Alabama.
Sharolyn is and will always be remembered as a Loving Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
She is survived by her Loving family; her daughter, Stacy Claybo, Gary of Newhalem WA and son, Charles Groves Susan of Sedro-Woolley, WA. Five grandchildren, Brian, and Jesse Claybo and Timmy, Megan and Colby Groves.
Sister, Rosemary Sims Priscilla, Jared, Riordan, Tanis of Burlington, WA. Brothers, Robert Grenier wife, Patricia, nephew, Ryan of Ferndale, WA, Vern Grenier wife, Michelle, nephew, Vern of Sedro-Woolley, WA., Kevin Grenier niece, Rose of Sudden Valley, WA., Roy Grenier wife, Janina, nieces, Amy and Jamie of Moses Lake, WA, Brother-in-law, Royce White wife, Jean, niece, Carla, nephews, David, Mike and Patrick of Alabama.
Special People: Vicki Grenier of Anacortes, WA, Barb Anderson Teri, Tina, Lisa of Sequim, WA, Steven and Kim Thien of La Conner and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews all of whom she Loves with all her heart.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 11:00AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Wendy Tingley of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center.
