Ted L. Jonas, 79, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, passed away at the Life Care Center of Mount Vernon and entered his heavenly home on September 19, 2004.
He was born on January 15, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Theodore J. and Ruth Knepper Jonas. He spent his childhood in Smithland, Iowa.
At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Navy Sea Bee’s and was stationed on Guam during WW II.
On July 8, 1946, Ted was united in marriage to Rozena Brummer in Mapleton, Iowa. Ted worked as a carpenter for his father in Smithland, Iowa until 1953 when he moved to Mount Vernon, Washington where he started to work for H. Halvorson Inc. out of Spokane, WA as a construction superintendent, working for them for 31 years. He later worked for Dorcas Construction in Seattle until his retirement, at which point he and Rozena moved to Sedro-Woolley where they have resided for the past 17 years. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 8, 2004.
Besides his work, Ted enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and his dog, Bo.
Ted is survived by his wife, Rozena of Sedro-Woolley. His daughters, Jacqueline Gent and her husband, Laurie of Sedro-Woolley, and their children, Troy Gent, Toni Hendrix, Vanessa Russell and husband Jerry, Kelley Evans and her husband Greg and Katie VanEsch and her finace, Jeffrey Rex. Daughter, Janelle Howell and her husband, Rod of Selah, WA, and their children, Clint Howell and his wife Lisa, and Abbey, Chloe, and Spencer Howell. His son, Jay Jonas and his wife, Anita also of Selah, WA and their children, Kyle, Evan and Kim Jonas. Four sisters, Shirley Larson of Oto, Iowa; Theodora McCall and her husband, Earl of Mondamin, Iowa; Cecelia Curbow, and her husband, Ron of Mount Vernon, WA and Betty Uhl and her husband, Wilfred of Smithland, Iowa. 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sharon Jonas.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley with Father Abraham Cueva, Celebrant. Graveside inurnment services will follow at the Burlington Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 719 Ferry St., Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284 or to Skagit Hospice.
