Theodore L. ‘Rusty’ Solomon, 75, a resident of Concrete, WA passed away at his home on Thursday October 7, 2004. Rusty was born in Seattle, WA on June 11, 1929 the son of Ted and Linnea Brommer Solomon. He was raised in Skykomish, WA where he graduated High School in 1948. He was drafted into the Army in 1951, spending 18 months in Korea, returning home in February, 1953. Rusty married his childhood sweetheart, Jacqueline C. Joyce on June 13, 1953 in Skykomish, WA. They moved to Concrete in April of 1954 so that he could work in the woods logging with his uncle, Gene Brommers. In 1962, he went into partnership with Buzz Williams forming Solomon and Williams Logging Co. In 1972, he went to work for Skagit County Public Works, retiring in 1991 as Road Supervisor of District 3.
Mowing the lawn every other day and twice yearly trips to Reno, NV were his favorite retirement activities. When it came to cutting fire wood, building roads and logging, he had advice to give and stories to tell.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 132 in Concrete; St. Catharine’s Catholic Church and was a Concrete Fire Fighter for 25 years.
He was always thinking of his family and was strong to the end. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Solomon at the family home. Daughter, Joyce Mehlum and her husband, Marvin of Burlington. 3 sons, Jim, and Jeff Solomon and his wife, Patty of Concrete and Joe Solomon of Anacortes. 7 grandchildren, Joleen Hickox and her husband Scott, Jason Mehlum, Joey, Mat, Bryan, Josh and Stephanie Solomon and 1 great-grandchild, Travis Hickox. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Wayne Solomon and 1 grandson, Nate Mehlum.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley. Father Robert Hagen, Celebrant. A fellowship will follow services. Private family inurnment will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete.
