Viola Emily Whiting, age 90, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at her home in Day Creek, Washington with her family at her side. She was born on March 27, 1919 in Kent, Washington to Charles and Amanda Ranta Palo.
Viola was raised in Kent, Washington and graduated from Kent High School in 1937.
She was married to Jack Whiting in King County in 1939 and they resided in Auburn, Kent and Pasco for 3 years until moving back to Kent in 1945. In the early 1960’s, they moved to Day Creek.
Viola enjoyed gardening, canning, needlework, crocheting and she was a gifted seamstress.
Viola was a member of the Day Creek Community Club; attended the Day Creek Chapel, and while residing in Kent she belonged to a bowling league and enjoyed working with ceramics. She will be remembered as a great wife, mother and homemaker.
Viola is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Whiting of Day Creek. Her grandchildren, Hilary Bonnette and her husband Steve of Day Creek and Greg Whiting and his wife Angela of Marion, AR. 4 great-grandchildren, Robyn Reijm, Molly Reijm, Justin Bonnette and Elaina Whiting. A sister, Betty White of Bremerton and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack in 1992, her son Jack in April of 2009 and 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 1:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Rick Miles of the Day Creek Chapel officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice.
