Virginia M. Johnston, 85, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away surrounded by her family at her home on Friday, August 9, 2002. She was born on July 29, 1917 in Leavittsburg, Ohio the daughter of William A. and Anna L. Perman Byham. As a young child she moved to Sedro-Woolley. She was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating in 1935. In 1936 she married Bud Johnston in Sedro-Woolley. She was a housewife and also worked at several local businesses in Sedro-Woolley. She was active with the local Democrat party and worked on the local election polls. Viriginia enjoyed her birthday club outing with the girls and was an avid pinochle player. She was a loving, super mom and grandmother. She enjoyed her family and friends. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by; 2 sons , Tim Johnston and his wife Karen of Coos Bay, Oregon, Bob Johnston and his companion Becky Mager of Sedro-Woolley, 4 grandchildren; Tony Johnston of Outerbanks, NC, Lisa Piatkowski and her husband Mark of Rocky Mount, NC, Darren Young and his wife Melanie of San Diego, CA. and Elizabeth Dean and her husband Bill of Wilmington, DE. A brother Robert Byman of Sedro-Woolley and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud in 1987; her sisters Betty and Barbara, brother Chuck, and recently her granddaughter-in-law, Bonnie Johnston.
At her request there will be no services. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date. Memorials to Skagit Hospice are suggested. Cremation and arrangements under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
