WINNIFRED ARLENE SIEBECKE, our wife, mother and friend passed away on Thursday March 27, 2003, her 76th birthday, at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, WA following a brief illness. She was born on March 27, 1927 in Stockton, CA.
Winn was happiest cooking one of her famous and fabulous meals, or most recently shopping with her best friend, Connie Smithhart. As a young woman she enjoyed dancing for pleasure as well as in dance contests during WW II to the music of Horace Heidt ‘and His Musical Knights in the Stockton and San Jose areas. On July 14, 1951 she married Alfred George Siebecke in Reno, NV and began a career as a Navy wife. In 1959 they were stationed at NAS Whidbey Island where Al became an officer and Winn became involved with the Navy Relief Society and other causes and activities for officer’s wives in squadrons’ VAH-123, VAH-6 & VA-52. It was during the VA-52 years that Winn was able to travel and meet her husband Al in Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Hawaii while he was on deployment during the Vietnam War.
In April of 1961, they welcomed their newly adopted daughter, Kelly Ann, into their home and life. In 1973, they moved from Oak Harbor to just outside of Concrete, WA to Birdsview, and Winn began her new passion of vegetable gardening and canning, filling up the root cellar every fall.
Winn Siebecke was a good and caring woman who touched many lives; friends and family alike will certainly miss her.
She is survived by her husband Al Siebecke, her daughter Kelly Siebecke & Connie Smithhart, all of Birdsview. 3 sisters, Agnes, Eleanor and Noreen of Shingle Springs, San Jose & Stockton, CA, respectively, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Marie Stewart in 1983 and Fred Arthur Stewart in 1986. At Winn’s request there will be no funeral services. Her ashes will be scattered near the family home. The family also requests no flowers. Cremation and arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
