E. Jean Cameron (Hollis)

E. Jean Cameron (Hollis)

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

Jean was born to Howard W. and Wilhelmina Hollis in Rocky Point, Long Island, New York on August 1, 1924 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 27, 2013 at home of natural causes.  Jean was 88 years old, just shy of her 89th birthday.

Jean attended high school in Holbrook, MA and Art School in Boston MA. She had both artistic and musical talent.  She married Donald R. Stormont in Chelsea, MA when he returned from war in November of 1945 and had two sons; Chris and Michael.

In 1951, Jean moved to Lexington, MA and remained there for many years as she raised her two young boys as a single mother.  She started her career working for East Coast Aerotec Supply where she met, Charles (Charlie) Cameron, the true love of her life. After dating him for many years, they were married in 1963.  Charlie made the family complete and was a wonderful father to Chris and Mike.

She later worked for many years at Nuclear Metals, Inc where she was a Document Librarian and the only woman in her department.  She loved her job at NMI and made good friends while there; reminiscing about them often.

They spent their summers at the family camp (the Old Shack) at Stinson Lake in New Hampshire and considered it like home, as it was to the Hollis family.  Many cherished friends and memories were made on summer nights by the lake.

The East Coast held a special place in Jean’s heart; she loved New Hampshire and, most of all, Wareham and Boston, MA.   In 1976 Jean and Charlie made the decision to move to Lyman, WA to be with their son, Chris, and his family.

Jean had many loves; her garden peonies, a nice set of freshly ironed sheets, Andrea Bocelli, knitting, puzzles, a good Yankee Magazine, and she was no stranger to The New York Times’ crossword puzzles, completing every one in pen.  Most of all, she enjoyed sports, especially baseball.  In her youth, she was a huge fan of the Boston Red Socks.  On game day, she would dress up in her favorite red polka-dotted dress and head to Fenway Park and sit in the front rows, always hoping Ted Williams would notice her in the stands.  Although she loved the Socks, she loved ‘her’ Seattle Mariners and ‘her boys’ most of all.  She followed each and every game, right up until her passing.  There was no bigger Mariners fan than Jean.

Jean was preceded in death by her son, Michael Stormont in 1976 and her husband, Charles Cameron in 1993.

She is survived by her brother and his wife, Windsor and Jean Hollis of Stinson Lake (Rumney), NH; her son and his wife, Chris and Patti Stormont; two grandchildren, Billie Stormont and companion Eddie Hills and Nick Stormont and his wife Samantha; their children, Dylan Michael and Hailey Jane Stormont, all of Lyman, WA;  nephews Peter (Ellen) Hollis  and Ken (Deborah) Hollis , all of Chapel Hill, NC;  nephews Rick (Sheryl) Hollis of N. Raleigh, NC, and, William “Buzz” (Carla) Hollis of Richmond Hill, GA, and her beloved cat, Kitty.

Graveside inurnment services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 4:00pm at the Lyman Cemetery.  Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Hospice of the Northwest, 819 S 13th Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Chris and Patti,

So sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. I was lucky to visit last summer when Jean had one of her good days — almost like old times. We’ll all miss her.
