Alvin ‘Elliott’ Button, age 91, passed away at his home in Sedro-Woolley, WA with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. He was born February 13, 1913 in Aldridge, Minnesota the son of Alvin E. and Elizabeth Elliott Button. Elliott grew up in Minnesota where he enjoyed snow skiing, ice fishing, ice skating, and swimming. He was married to Marjorie Nicol on October 12, 1940 in Bellingham, WA and from 1945 to 1975 they resided at the Seattle City Light Camps in Newhalem and Diablo where Elliott worked as a senior hydro electric operator. After his retirement in 1975, he and Marjorie moved to Sedro-Woolley and built their home on Evans Drive. Elliott was a member of the Elks, NRA, Republican Party, and the Community Covenant Church of Clear Lake where he served as a Deacon and usher. During his working years, Elliott enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, and motorcycle riding in the hills. After retirement, he went to work everyday on the golf course as well as riding his bicycle four miles per day, gardening, and reading. Elliott was well known for his sense of humor, story telling abilities, and his letters to the editor at the Skagit Valley Herald.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Marjorie Button of the family home in Sedro-Woolley. A daughter and son-in-law Judith K. and Ron Bates of LaConner and a son David E. and his wife Jane Button of Haines, AK. Granddaughter Whitney Button of Sedro-Woolley and a great-grandson Jeremy of Omak, WA. A sister JoAnne Button of Longmount, CO, a cousin Ardell and his wife Evelyn Button of Sedro-Woolley. 2 brothers-in-laws Fred Nicol and his wife Peg and their family, Jim Nicol and his wife Bink and their family. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Tony Button, and 3 brothers Joe, Roger, and David Button.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 16, 2004 at 1:00PM at the Community Covenant Church of Clear Lake with Pastor Tim Hedberg officiating. Private Family Inurnment Services will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Community Covenant Church of Clear Lake or Skagit Hospice.     Elliot and I went hunting and killed a large grizzly bear in 1947. the bear attacked us after we wounded it and died at our feet. He had a floor rug made for his house in newhalem. I’ll never forget him or that hunt.
