Arretta was my lovely and loving neighbor for 10 years. My favorite memory of her occurred one night when I came home late one blustery winter night from Mt. Vernon. It was cold and rainy, and I was really depressed. All of a sudden, I looked out my window to see what looked like an apparition, but it was Arretta. There in her long nightgown, the wind blowing it and her hair sideways, ran Arretta towards my door with something in her hand. “Here” she said. “I saw you a comin’ in and thought you might like a fried pie.” Then as quickly as she came she was gone again across the road.
Whenever I’m down the Universe reminds me of what love is. It’s a neighbor with a little piece of fried pastry. She brought heaven right down to earth. When I finally write that Great American Novel about Lyman, WA she;ll be there too.

I just found out Mrs. Price has been with our Lord for several years now.. no one may ever read this..but I feel i must tell “someone” that I am fruit from her labors. I am now 52 years old, soon to be be 53, and I have a Bible Mrs. Price gave me when I was 6 years old. (1970 Lyman Mission Church) I am a Christian.. and am raising my 7 children to follow the Lord. Today I am cleaning out my bookshelves and organizing and here sits a Bible that I have cherished for many, many years. When I looked up Mrs. Price’s name and found she has already gone on… I just cried and cried for I feel I missed thanking this lady for touching my life. But I do have the “hope” that I will see her again and can tell her myself and that is a blessing in itself! May God bless you.. her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.. I pray each of her family comes to know Him!
    In Christ name,
    Paula Repsher Mitchell

I know that this a little late, but we just found out this sad news. I am responding to this departure in reguards of the Ralph Bell Family. We are in North Carolina and we still hold our friends of Washington in highest reguards. I was always in and out of this home with my parents. Mrs. Price was always so nice and pleasant. I can remember seeing my first color TV set in their home! It was showing golf…. She always gave us cookies and invited us to church.

Arretta is one of my sweet memories. I can’t recall her ever saying an unkind word about anyone and she was always an encouragement to me. I was sad to see she’s gone, but glad to know she is with Jesus and that she has her memory and her youth back. I don’t think God is making people like Arretta anymore and for that we are at a loss. Enough was always plenty for her and she was often puzzled by those who wanted more. Sorry I missed the service and am praying for the family.

All the Price children were so lucky to have such a wonderful mother. She was a good friend to my mother Ellis “Tex” Scott and just a wonderful person. God be with all the family.

In reflecting on my memories of Arretta, the one word that seems to best describe her is “faithful”. Growing up in Lyman, I remember her faithfulness to the church, her faithfulness in serving her family, faithfulness as a friend and neighbor. Her life was a great example of what pleases our heavenly Father and I’m so thankful to have known her. While we hold dear the memories of Arretta, we also see those qualities reflected in the lives of you, her children. Thoughts and prayers are with you as you honor her life and yet, look forward to what God has prepared for those who love Him. With loving thoughts and precious memories. . .

I grew up in Lyman and attended the Mission church. Have so many memories of that wonderful time and always with the Price kids. Clark, Alan and I extend our condolences, you will miss your mother, but she is in a good place, so always remember that. Wish I could come to the service, just not possible, but I will be thinking of you all on that day.

Will miss seeing Arretta around town. We have a new angel in heaven and the other angels are gathered around to welcome her home.

  • Connie Wickland

Blessings and love to all of your dear family. I was blessed to meet and know Arretta briefly with Juanita. My condolences to all and joy to all as you celebrate her life and her life in Jesus.

I am thankful to God for meeting your Mom and seeing all the Joy she always beamed out to everyone. She really did fight the good fight of faith and now she no longer will have the battles of this life. Blessings to her family as they walk through the loss of her prescence but are filled with the memories of a life well lived.!

I have known Arretta since she moved to Lyman. I moved away many years ago but I never forgot her. She was always a sweet and loving person. She will be a wonderful angel for God. She will be missed here on earth.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Arretta’s family. I have a pocketful of good memories of growing up in Lyman, and along with the Price family, attending the Lyman Mission Assembly of God. The last time I remember seeing Arretta was on a visit with my folks and a trip to the Lyman Post Office. It had been years since I had seen her. When she saw me, she grinned and said…”You must be Wayne because you look just like your daddy.” Someone wrote above that she was like a Lyman Icon. I totally agree. She embodied what was best about growing up in a small town like Lyman.

We are sorry to see aunt Arretta have to leave us. We know she had a long good life in this world, but she is having the best time of her life now. Our prayers go out to all the family. We never got to spend a lot of time with her, but what time we had was really great. Wish we could be there with you all. God Bless. Love you all.

Arretta will be missed on this side of heaven, but it will be a joy to oneday join her in heaven at the feet of Jesus. I loved having those visits with her in her kitchen over a cup of coffee, a little something to eat, great conversation, and always a time of prayer. Oh the fun I had tilling up her garden in the spring after I purchased that Troy Built tiller. While I would be tilling, she would be right there by my side gently showing and telling me exactly where to till and where not to till. Afterwards she would have something cool for me to drink and then share a few great memories of her property and how it had changed over the years. But I can attest to the fact, that while the land around her may have changed, her faith in and love for Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord, remained steadfast.
I always heard Arretta say “good things” about others and never an unkind word – not ever. As most will remember, you could never just drop in for a few minutes to visit. She would talk for a long time about each of her family represented in all the pictures covering the walls in her home. They were such a comfort to her and as she spoke words of blessing over each of the children, grand children, greats and nephews and nieces.
Through her living she showed us the way to be like Jesus and now she leaves us with a great legacy to live up to.
To all her family from Joan and I: you are in our prayers always.

There are many times in our lives when we are offered a choice. A split or a fork in the roads of our lives. To take the right or the left is up to each of us, though with the direction from our Father we are insured to take the correct one. I suppose that’s just how I feel because with God’s help I took the road to Arretta’s home in Lyman for over a month. What a gift that time was for both of us, as well as some of you too. Thank you Arretta for the many smiles, the laughter, the stories, the friendship, the activities and so much more that I got to share with you. Thank you God for showing me which way to go – I cannot begin to imagine if I’d missed out on all the blessings that road held for me. Thank you too Juanita for listening to our Father and leaving the two of us home alone.
I will see you again Arretta and until then, smile on all of us from heaven. Love ya!!

I’ve known her for over 60 years, and always think of her with a smile. Praying for the family and looking forward to the day when all God’s children get home.

I will miss my sweet Mama. She was always there for all us kids and everyone else; giving, loving, caring, smiling, touching, laughing; making sure everyone had what they needed (and more)….so easy going and so kind. I loved her so much. She was a wonderful, loving mother who taught me so much about acceptance of life and to not worry over issues you couldn’t do anything about. It was so much fun to work in the garden, yard and home with her. She really loved her flowers and kept the house filled with numerous, colorful bouquets during flower season. Mom never wasted anything; picking up EVERY plum, apple, pear, berry, grape, etc…that fell to the ground. I’m so glad that Mama loved Jesus and that I know I will see her again. I love you, Mama!
