Bertha Elizabeth Burnett, age 100, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Home Place Special Care in Burlington, Washington.

She was born on October 2, 1910 in East St. Louis, Illinois, one of thirteen children of Bert & Christina (Amann) Thompson.  She was raised and attained her education in East St. Louis.

She was united in marriage to Robert Burnett on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930 in East St. Louis and they made their home and raised their family there until moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1960.  Bertha continued to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.   She loved to get down on the floor playing with her grand and great-grandchildren. And when time allowed she enjoyed gardening and beachcombing looking for shells and rocks.

She is survived by her son, Robert A. Burnett, Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Mount Vernon and her daughter, Bernice Hensler and her husband Roy of Sedro-Woolley; two brothers, Ray & Alvin Thompson and a sister, Evelyn Embrey; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, Sr. and nine brothers and sisters.

Private family services will be held with inurnment in the Saxon Cemetery.      Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

    I spent many wonderful times with the Hensler Family and Mrs. Burnett. I enjoyed all of them so very much and Mrs. Burnett was such a sweet lady fussing over all of us childern. Thank you for the wonderful childhood memories and thank you to the Hensler Family for sharing their Mother and Grandmother with me. You are all in my prayers in your time of loss.
