Bertha Leona Gibbs, 92, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 12, 2010.

She was born on January 20, 1918 in Willets, North Carolina, one of eight children of James M. and Ada V. (Elders) Ammons.

Bertha was united in marriage to Charlie Gibbs on March 26, 1936 in Jackson County, North Carolina, making their home there until moving to the Sedro-Woolley, Washington area in 1946.

Bertha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her life centered around her family.  She was also a member of the Clear Lake Baptist Church.

Bertha is survived by her children, Charles Gibbs and wife Dorothy of Sedro-Woolley, Jean Hill and husband Butch of Mount Vernon, Bertha Rogers and husband Chuck of Mount Vernon, Kathy Gallagher of Sedro-Woolley and Marti Queen and husband Dub of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Randy Sanders, Sandi Sutton, Ken Franks, Karen Christensen,  Cheryl Taylor, Wes Gibbs, Aaron Robbins, Amy Maskell, Jeff Gallagher, Darin Gallagher and Brian Queen; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law Ernie Adams; brother-in-law Frank Moore and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Gibbs (1991), daugher Edith Adams (2010), son-in-law Chuck Gallagher (2009), parents  James and Ada Ammons; 3 brothers, Wesley, Roy and Clyde Ammons; 4 sisters, Emma Moore, Alice Woodring, Ethel (Henry) Swett and Myrtle Tallent.

The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley, United General Hospital, Skagit Hospice, and especially her dedicated care givers, Sandi, Nancy, Cheryl, Ana, Bryn, Tina and Faith.

Memorials are suggested to the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be available on Wednesday from 9am to 5pm and on Thursday from 9am to noon at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.

    Bertha….I am so sorry to read about your Mother’s passing. I know that you and your family and sisters & brother are hurting right now. I know how I felt when my Mom passed on.
