Beverly D. Byrd, 79, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away on April 4, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley.

   Beverly was born on July 20, 1934 in Bellingham, the daughter of Aubrey & Marion (Riley) Powell.  The family moved to Skagit County in the early 1940’s and she attended school in Burlington, graduating from Burlington-Edison High School with the class of 1952.   She then attended Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon and it was there that she met Carter Byrd, whom she married in 1955 in Mount Vernon.

    Beverly & Carter first made their home in King County and began their family, living there until 1962 when they returned to Skagit County living in Burlington.

Beverly worked as a billing clerk for Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and for United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley for many years.

    She enjoyed craft work, embroidering and crocheting, making numerous afghans  for family and friends.

    Beverly is survived by her son, Ron Byrd of Sedro-Woolley; 3 grandchildren, Shane Walden, Jennifer Walden-Starkovich and Travis Walden and 1 great-granddaughter, Ashley Walden; her brother, Terry Powell and his wife Dee of Sedro-Woolley; son-in-law, Bradley Walden in West Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carter Byrd; daughter, Lynnea Walden and brother, Richard Powell.

    The family request that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington.
