Carl L. Miller

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Carl L. Miller, 89, a lifelong Skagit Valley resident, passed away on August 9, 2011 at the Ashley Gardens care facility in Mount Vernon.

Carl was born on November 24, 1921 in Clear Lake, Washington, the son of Paul & Ellen (Anderson) Miller.

He attended grade school in Clear Lake and high school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1940.

He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II, serving as a mechanic aboard the USS Ogalala.

Carl was raised in the Lutheran faith, but when he met the girl of his dreams, Maxine Johnson, he changed to Catholicism and in 1951 they were united in marriage in the Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley.

For many years Carl worked as a custodian for the Sedro-Woolley School District

at various schools until his retirement.

Carl was very mechanical and could fix just about anything, so in his leisure time he just liked to tinker.  He also enjoyed singing and listening to music.

Carl has been a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for 60 years.

He is survived by a niece, Donna Cook and her husband, Bryce and a nephew, Walt Miller all of Mount Vernon; a brother-in-law, Robert Schwenson of Seattle and along with many other extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; his sisters, Florence Schwenson and Ellen Miller and brothers, Paul, Ed, Floyd and Roy Miller.

Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Walt Rice of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.  Private interment will be held at the Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham.

Carl was a wonderful friend to my former mother in law, Josephine Nelson. We so enjoyed his visit to Texas. He certainly had strong genes.
