Charles Richard “Dick” McClure, 93, passed away June 7, 2023 at Silverado Memory Care Community with his dog “Joe” by his side.

He taught 6th grade in Bellingham, Washington and was well respected by students, parents, and faculty.  He worked at the conservation site for many years.

Dick was a longtime board member at WECU and referred to it as “his baby”.  He loved to travel and spent many summers seeing the world.  He was also a master gardener, and his yard was proof.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dick was laid to rest at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Share your memories of Dick and sign the online guest register.

I celebrate the well-lived life of Mr. McClure! He was a gifted teacher and a man with many and varied interests. He served as a very helpful mentor to me in my early teaching days. Regrettably I never did see his garden!

Dick is well remembered for his decades of volunteering at Bellingham Theatre Guild. In the 1960s he was one of the core members who kept the place afloat when money was tight and helped maintain the building from pigeon loft to coal furnace. He also made a few appearances on stage, served as stage manager for our first musical, led the board of directors, and regularly worked the ticket booth. I’m not sure we ever thanked him enough for all he did.

I had the pleasure of knowing Charles over the last 3 years while working at WECU, he was always such a delight and a joy to interact with whenever he came in. The smile he had on his face and his chuckle were contagious. He will be very missed!
