Cumi E. Self, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2006 at Home Place Special Care in Burlington, WA.
She was born May 22, 1925 in Waynesville, North Carolina, the daughter of Hubert and Maude Frisbee Hagen.
Cumi was raised and attended school in Rollin Fork, NC. She was united in marriage on December 1, 1941 in Greensville, NC to Denton L. Self. In 1946, they moved to Washington, then to Oregon in the early 1950’s, returning to Washington in 1957 making their home in Sedro-Woolley.
Cumi enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched the lives of so many, opening their home to foster children, some who still call her Mom today.
Cumi enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. She worked seasonally at National Cannery. Cumi supported her husband during his career in the logging industry and then was an intricate part of the dairy farm operated by her husband and son.
Cumi was a charter member of the Valley Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maledia and Fred Smith and a son and daughter-in-law, Von and Irma Self all of Sedro-Woolley.
Four grandchildren, Charlene Ovenell and her husband, Jim of Burlington, Denice Self Hadeen of Tenino, Colette Self and Justin Self of Sedro-Woolley. Seven great-grandchildren, Larissa, Andrew, and Clayton Hadeen of Tenino, Kayla, Dwayne Jr. , DeVon, and Shelbyrae Self-Mathieu of Sedro-Woolley. A sister, Elva Byrd of Sedro-Woolley and two brothers and 6 sisters residing on the East Coast. Extended children, Barb and Willard Boyd of Sedro-Woolley and Cathy Heib of Arlington. 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Moore and Pearl Self of Sedro-Woolley and a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Lucille Self of Hamilton. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Friday, February 3, 2006 at 1:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at Valley Baptist Church on John Liner Rd. Memorials are suggested to Valley Baptist Church 710 John Liner Rd Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.

    I just came across this , in looking for Cumi’s sister ( Elva ) funeral arrangements . Cumi was a very dear sweet family member . Thoe years have passed , she is still missed .
