Delbert (Dell) A. West, 84, of Mount Vernon, WA, passed away February 23, 2021.  Dell was born October 19, 1936 in Seminole, OK to David and Rhoda (Barnes) West.  He attended High School in Shelton, WA, playing the coronet in the school band.  During his high school years, he met and dated Theresa “Sue” Shimek.  Post high school, Dell worked for Simpson Timber Company.  Dell and Sue Shimek were married in Shelton, WA in 1955.  They made their home in Mount Vernon, WA where Dell worked for Barnetts Implement, a dealership of John Deere Tractor and Farm equipment.  He enjoyed working at the John Deere dealership because of the people he met, which created many life-long friendships.  Dell was his children’s greatest fan watching his kids in various sports and, in later years, travelling to the grandchildren’s destinations to support them in their sport endeavors.  He never missed a life important function of his kids and grandchildren.  His family was his everything and where he found the most joy, especially from his grandchildren.  Dell loved obtaining collections of coins, belt buckles, and everything John Wayne.  He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Mount Vernon and McLean Road Fire Departments.  He was also a member of the local chapter of the Elks Lodge, a Little League coach for the McLean Road Fire Department sponsored team, the assistant Scout Master of Troop 51, while his boys were of scouting age, and a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter H.

Surviving Dell are his wife, Sue; children, Cheryl (Steve) King of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Lisa (Jim) Foster of Mount Vernon, WA; Charlotte (Mike) Lupinacci of Coeur d’Alene, ID; Dan (Yoki) West of Running Springs, CA; David (Edie) West of Meridian, ID; Doug West of Basalt, CO; sister, Lois (Bart) Cundy; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.  He was many things to many people and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Rhoda; sisters, Ruth and Pat; twin brothers, Roy and Troy; father-in-law, Joseph Shimek; mother-in-law, Opal Shimek; and daughter-in-law, Nancy.

A Celebration of Life (open house) will be held on June 26, 2021 at 1811 E. Highland Ave., Mount Vernon from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.  Dell was laid to rest at Bayview Cemetery in Mount Vernon.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to McLean Road Fire Department.  Share your memories of Dell and sign the online guest register.
