Dewey Lee Hyatt, age 61, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2004 near Burley, Idaho, the result of an automobile accident.
He was born August 27, 1942 in Franklin, North Carolina, the son of William E. ‘Ed’ and Mattie Coggins Hyatt.
Dewey and his family came to Sedro-Woolley from North Carolina in 1947 and he attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1960. He later served with the U.S. Army and upon his return, settled in Skagit County and began his construction career.
He was the owner and operator of One Way Construction, whose emphasis was on road and bridge construction.
Dewey was united in marriage to Janet Dillard on August 16, 1966 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
He was also a graduate of the Gospel Ministry in Hendersonville, NC in December of 1978.
He is survived by his wife Janet at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His daughters and sons-in-laws, Michelle and Don Shafer and their children, Gregg Haddick, Garrett, Devin and Andrea Shafer, and Brandin, Kelsey and Kendall Logsdon; Cheri and Mike Shope and their children, Talon, Rochelle and Jordan Shope and Kenny Smith; and Sheila and Ron Oudman and their children, Joshua, Ashley and Nicholas Oudman, and Tyler and Kylie Bartholomeus, and their father, David Bartholomeus all of Sedro-Woolley. His mother, Mattie Hyatt of Sedro-Woolley and his step-mother, Madge Hyatt who just recently moved to Richmond, Texas. A brother, Kenneth Jim Hyatt of Mount Vernon, and 3 sisters, Frances Oxenham and her husband Bob of Sedro-Woolley, Lucille Salvas and her husband Jerry of Mount Vernon, and Fay Stewart of Renton. Also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Hyatt in 2002 and a brother, Donnie Ray Hyatt in 1996.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 3, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Sedro-Woolley. Reverend Dan Hull officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
A memorial fund in Dewey’s name has been set up at Whidbey Island Bank.
