Donna Dennis

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Donna Marie Dennis, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Her family was by her side.

Donna was born on June 11, 1920 to Theodore H. and Erma Maubert in Seattle, WA. She attended Ravenna Grade School and Holy Names Academy and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Seattle.

In 1933, Donna’s father died in an accident at the Yellow Cab Co. in Seattle. Her mother married Lew Wells in 1936 who became a dad to her and grandpa to her children.

While singing in the choir at the West Seattle Christian Church Donna met her husband, a handsome young tenor. Donna married William Henry Dennis, Jr. (Bill) on October 29, 1938 at the West Seattle Christian Church.

Donna and Bill moved to Puyallup, WA where they resided for many years and all five of her children were born. In 1954 the family relocated to Port Orchard, WA. Donna lived in Port Orchard until 1999 when she moved to Burlington, WA to be closer to her family.

Donna was a full time wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed hiking, fishing, skiing and swimming with her husband and children. While her children were growing there were many family camping trips, the highlight being a three week trip to Arizona. Donna was always a participant in her children’s activities, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, and PTA. She spent a lot of time watching her children perform in school plays, concerts, church choir programs and athletic events.

In 2006 Donna moved to Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley where she spent the last years of her life. She was very well liked by the staff and other residents who she amused with her quick wit and stories of her life.

Donna is survived by her children, daughters, Sherry Day (Greg) of Burlington, Julie Powell (Mike) of Sedro-Woolley; sons, William H. Dennis, III of Hermiston, OR, Christoper Dennis (Linda) of Everett, and Michael Dennis (Kate) of Carnation. Donna will also be missed by her grandchildren, Michael Gillette (Jody), Angela Fowler, Jessica Silverman (Jeff), Rachel Miller, David Powell (Colleen), Jon Powell (Melynne), Mark Stringer (Toni), Kezia, Cheryl Boxford – Phelps, and Bruce Boxford; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and several generations of nephews and nieces.

Donna’s is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; father, Theodore H. Maubert; mother and step-father, Erma and Lew Wells; and step-sister Dorothy Wells Boxford (Pete).

Donna’s family wishes to say thank-you to the staff at Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley for their kind and compassionate care. We also want to thank Hospice Northwest for the comfort and support they provided during Donna’s last months.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.

Hi Cousins! I was sorry to hear about you mom’s passing. Donnie & I have exchanged Christmas Cards through the years. That has been an important connection with the Dennis Family for me. Chris & Linda have kept me informed through the years & I have appreciated it.
The last of a generation. Wonderful memories! I have fond memories of Donnie. She was a sweet and accepting aunt. Quiet but loving and accepting.
I have ferry reservations to come for the memorial service. I am hoping the weather will not interfere. Looking forward to seeing all of you and remembering your Mom for the kind, gentle lady she was.
    Love to you!
    Judy

My condolences to Sherry, Julie, Hank, Chris and Mike. I remember my aunt fondly. She was very dedicated to you kids and was always very sweet to me. I also remember your dad fondly. Especially one Chrismas at Mels where he and I found a playboy magazine in one of Mel’s funny Christmas presents to my dad John! I’ve been “under the weather” for a couple of weeks so won’t be able to come to services. Hi to all of you and my thoughts are with you. Love to all – Tom Mitchell
