Douglas Dills

Friday, March 31st, 2023

Douglas E. Dills, age 80, a longtime Sedro-Woolley, Washington resident, passed away March 31, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Hayesville, NC, to Gordon H. and Irma (Swann) Dills.

Douglas graduated from Hayesville High School in North Carolina.  After graduation Doug enlisted in the US Air Force for 4 years.  He was stationed in many locations around the world including South Korea.  Douglas was one of the first service members to be trained on IBM computers.  After leaving the Air Force, Doug joined his family in the Skagit Valley, eventually buying a home in Sedro-Woolley with his wife, Barbara and raising their family.  He worked in the timber industry running heavy equipment and building roads for local employers.  Douglas was a member of the American Legion in Sedro-Woolley for many years.

Douglas was a tremendous person who loved his family and friends, loved fishing with his grandson Michael, following NASCAR with his grandson Chris, and was an avid reader and follower of sports.  Doug will be greatly missed, there were so many wonderful memories his family and friends shared with him during his lengthy illness.  He was a wonderful person and made the world a better place, but we find peace in knowing he is in heaven with his loving family that has preceded him.

Douglas is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; sons, Doug Jr, and Daniel; daughter, Denise; three grandsons, Christopher Dills, Michael Dills, and Carlos Navaron; sisters, Norma (Chuck) Trueman and Inez Sullivan; brothers, Michael, Steven and Scott; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon R. and James Wade; sisters, Doris (Clark), Barbara (Mayfield) and Carolyn (Hein); his newborn daughter, Tracy Ann Dills.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Hamilton Cemetery, with Pastor Roy Swihart presiding.  Family and friends are welcome to gather for a potluck celebration of his life at the Lyman Community Center in Lyman, WA.  The Community Center will be open prior to the graveside service to drop off dishes.  Memorials may be given to, and special thanks to, Hospice of the Northwest, Mount Vernon, WA.  Please share your memories of Douglas and sign the online guest register.
