Frank David Rock, age 54, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Kindred Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He was born October 18, 1952 in White Earth, Minnesota, the son of Francis and Frances Jones Rock.
Frank was a resident of the Upper Skagit Tribe near Sedro-Woolley for the past 23 years and formally resided in White Earth, Minnesota. Frank served with the US Marines from 1969 to 1973 during the Viet Nam era. He worked as a foreman for the Cedar Wood Box and Woodshop at the Upper Skagit Tribe. He owned and operated an Indian arts and Crafts business and he also worked for Jack Bowen for 15 years as a fish buyer. Frank was a member of the Ojibwe White Earth Band of White Earth, Minnesota, the American Indian Movement Organization of St. Paul, Minnesota, and the First Nations Revival Center in Marysville. He played basketball in various Indian tournaments and played softball for the Upper Skagit Tribe.
Frank is survived by his wife Marilyn Rock, his daughters; Amy Jo and Paula Rock, and a step-daughter, Su Anna Luna all of Sedro-Woolley. 5 grandchildren; Merleta Hendrix, Johnny Hendrix, David Joe-Manny Rock, Alexus Hendrix, and Ali’ja Rock all of SedroWoolley. His mother; Frances Rock of Minneapolis, MN. 3 brothers; Sam, Francis JR. and William Rock all of Minneapolis, MN 5 sisters; Mabel Bellanger of Ponsford, MN and Stephanie Rock, Paulette Rock, Pamela Riveria, and Teresa Rock all of Minneapolis, MN Numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Rock, Sr., and a brother, Simon Rock.
Prayer Services will be Friday, September 28, 2007 at 7:00PM with Funeral Services on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 10:00AM both at the Upper Skagit Tribal Gymnasium, Sedro-Woolley with Rev. Merle Williams SR. of Merle Williams Ministries Inc of Marysville officiating. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Indian Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Inter-Tribal Veterans Groups and the Marine Corps League. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
