Glen Allen Latting

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Glen Allen Latting, 71, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from complications of a stroke.

Glen was born on November 25, 1938 in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Donald and Juanita Latting, Sr.

Don and his family moved to the Sedro-Woolley area when he was a young boy and there he was raised and attended school.   He then served his country for several years in the U.S. Navy.

Glen worked as a truck driver and then as a car salesman for many years until obtaining his real estate license, selling real estate in the Skagit Valley for many years.

On April 14, 1971 he was united in marriage to Shirley Goan and together they made their home in Sedro-Woolley until her recent death on January 11, 2010.

Glen was a gentle and loving man who loved his family, his pets and kids in general. He had many nieces and nephews who would call him Santa, because at Christmas he would show up with bags full of toys.

He loved going to garage sales looking for that great deal and “playing poker with the boys” on Saturday nights.

Glen was active in and was a longtime member of the George Baldridge Post 43, American Legion in Sedro-Woolley.

He was a dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be dearly missed by all.

Glen is survived by his children, Jackie Hoyt and his wife, Barbara of Van Nuys, CA, Wally Hoyt and his wife, Becky of Sedro-Woolley and Olivia Rue of Sandpoint, Idaho.  His brother, Don Latting, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy of Sedro-Woolley. A half-sister, Helen Young of Bellingham and two half-brothers, Bob Plemon and his wife Kathy of Bellingham and Vern Plemon of Texas.  Four grandchildren, Jessica, Josh, Ryan and Nick and two great-grandchildren. Two nieces, Cheryl Mitchell and Mindy Karper; a nephew, Mitch Latting and many more extended family.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Mike Smith of the Valley Baptist Church officiating.  Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.

The family request that memorials be made to the U.S.M.C. Toys for Tots program c/o the American Legion post in Sedro-Woolley.

Visitation is available at and services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Glenn was my father’s nephew and he looked very much like a slightly larger version of my father, Allen ‘Sandy’ Latting, who passed away in July 1977.
I recall many pleasant family gatherings with Glenn and Shirley over at Don Latting Sr’s for Christmas during the 1960s and early 1970s in Sedro Woolley.
He was always kind, poised and polite whenever I saw him. I miss him even though I haven’t been able to keep in contact much over the years since I moved away from Sedro Woolley in 1975, It is the kind smiles and quiet reassuring looks he gave when the extended Latting family was gathered many years ago that I’ll always cherish. This entry is being submitted as of Feb.5, 2011 from where I live elsewhere in Washington State.
