Helen Jeanne Thomas known as ‘Jeanne’ passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Home Place Special Care in Burlington, WA at the age of 82 years. She was born August 30, 1921 in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Arthur and Annie Archibald Thomas. Helen grew up in Moosejaw graduating from Moosejaw High School and later attended Seattle Pacific University in Seattle receiving her B.A. degree in Education. She continued her education at the University of Washington receiving her Masters Degree in English Literature. Her teaching career began on the elementary level teaching high school English in Sacramento, CA and she later joined the staff at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, WA teaching English and English Literature for over twenty years. While residing in Mount Vernon she was actively involved with the music program at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. About twenty five years ago, she moved to the wonderful community of Concrete, WA along the Skagit River where the rural lifestyle was a dream come true. She enjoyed her dogs, geese, and her beloved chickens along with gardening and chopping wood which kept her busy.
Helen is survived by a sister Beverly and a brother Gerald both of California and seven nieces and nephews.
Graveside Inurnment Services will be Friday, April 16, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete with The Rev. Vicki Wesen of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mount Vernon officiating.
