Hendrick Jon “Wick” Wichers, 74, of Sedro-Woolley, Washington passed away December 28, 2024. He was born February 10, 1950 to Henry William and Jean (Fullerton) Wichers.
His parents were part of the post-WWII move, leaving Kansas for California, where Wick grew up in the Santa Clara valley. After earning his AA degree, he joined the Air Force, serving his four years as Security Police in Wyoming and Germany.
He attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo on his GI bill, where he met and married Susan Reeber in 1978. Graduating in 1979 with a degree in Engineering Technology, he went to work for Lockheed, first in California, then Florida. He retired in 2006, moving to Sedro-Woolley in 2008.
Pastimes included living in old houses in need of repair and updating, collecting old tools, and helping Sue in the garden. His focus in life was his family, making sure to be home for dinner and attending every one of his kids’ events and many activities.
A quiet man, his presence always made an impact. While his natural tendency was to remain in the background, once prompted he could talk for hours. He enjoyed sharing stories of his past, his family history, and dispensing hard won wisdom in amusing anecdotes.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Wichers of Sedro-Woolley; daughters, Zabrina Wichers (Doug Lawson), Vanessa Wichers (Michael Greene Wichers); grandchildren, Nikola, Anthora, Gideon and Elric; sisters, Teresa Crockwell and Acacia McDermott.

I remember the old days on Banana River. I remember playing video games like Spyro the Dragon on PlayStation and Ecco the Dolphin on the original Sega Genesis. On occasion, I would just sit and watch Mr. Wichers play Myst in his office on the old PC. It was these years that really taught me the love I have for gaming.
Sue – I remember the years that you grew out your hair all the way to your feet for Locks of Love. Tree frog t-shirts and Birkenstocks. Joe Scruggs. The camping trips and goulash. I’m pretty sure we had goulash on every single camping trip we ever went on, and I still make it to this day. I think of you and my mom every time I make it. Thank you for being such a wonderful person and my mom’s best friend. Thank you for all the years in Scouts. Thank you for allowing me to take my first driver’s test in your Prius. And for always being there for my mom, you were the greatest friend of her life. I hope all of the memories of the many wonderful years help your heart heal in this difficult time.
Vanessa- It has been a long time since we have seen each other or spoken, and over time we grew apart, but the years of friendship that we had will never leave me. The treehouse at Riverpoint and fishing from the dock there were some of my favorite memories that we shared. I remember well exploring the Jetty by your house and going to Books-A-Million. Vanessa’s special scrambled eggs were the absolute best. It was just Borden American Cheese slices and eggs, who knew? It was always so good. I know that the spirit of your father will never leave you.
Zabrina – Brie! You were like an older sister to me. I remember all the years in Girl Scouts too, and your laugh. Your laugh is irreplaceable. All of the 90s music you got me interested in, the Spin Doctors and the Wallflowers. The way you would throw spaghetti at the wall like my mom taught you in scouts—it isn’t ready until it sticks! It has been a long time since I have seen you…. But the joyful memories we shared will always prevail over all. I hope all of the wonderful memories bring you comfort in these trying times.
With sincerest condolences,
Katie
I remember him as a most genial cousin. ..and tall.
The last time I saw him was years ago at grandmother’s house in Clay Center…
You could always tell when Wick had a fun antidote to share. His infectious grin would start at the corner of his smile! The twinkle in his eye meant it would be a good one!!! ❤️
