Shorty has been in my life since we became neighbors when I was 2 years old and my brother Ted was 4…we will miss him so much on our visits ‘up river’. Shorty and I were in the same grade and went all 1-12 together. So many memories as kids especially…Shorty, Ted and Joan, or them trying to get rid of me. Pete and Alice were wonderful friends…had one of the first TVs in Marblemount and always had the boys in to watch wrestling. It just will not be the same at the Cascade Days Parade…I always went to find Shorty and Elaine first.

Love and Prayers, Joan and Ted

Shorty is a great man and always will be in our hearts, he will always be loved and missed. I am granddaughter of Elaine Stafford who was his Girlfriend for nine or so years and a friend for life. Very sad for the loss but he will always be respected from many!

I’m the daughter of Roy Carlson (Carlson & Gay Logging). I remember when we lived at the old Sauk Ranger Station when I was about 10 or so and I got to spend a whole day riding in the log truck with Shorty. I remember that he was a man of few words but it was a great thrill for me that day and one that I haven’t forgotten in the last 50+ years. I think my non-fear of logging roads started that day. I know my Dad really appreciated the job that Shorty did for him and was a friend as well. On behalf of that by-gone era, I extend my condolences to the family of someone who was a legend in our own family. I hope that he is now reunited with all the great men of logging who have gone before him.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Shorty and wish to extend our sympathy to the family. We were close to the family when we were all younger and lived in the SedroWoolley,Concrete area. We were especially close to Ken and Stella and family. Our prayers and thoughts are with them.
