I have very good memories of Jack. Mike Tyler informed me that Jack had passed away and gave me the link to this obituary. I too was in the Navy with Jack on the same flight crew 12 in VP-17 in Whidbey Island. We flew together from 1963-1965, I transfered from the squadron before the second deployment to Vietnam. Jack and I were very close in age, I was born 10-18-1942. I will never forget Jack and his easy smile. While flying out in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964 I would relieve Jack as the bow observer so he could take a break. We shared many good times and working together the crew qualified as a “Alpha” status which means we were qualified to the highest standards of patrol crews in Anti Submarine Warfare. It is with great sadness that I say goodby to a great Shipmate.
    My prayers to the family,

I just found Jack Bryant in my searches for old shipmates. Jack and I flew many hours together when we were in a patrol Squadron, VP-17. Our aircraft was a P2V-7 or an SP2H Neptune. We flew in Crew Twelve from 1963 to 1965 Then I was transferred out. Back then we had a very strong crew. Jack was the AE, electrician and I was the AO, ordnanceman. We lived, worked, eat, pulled liberty and slept together.
I remember one incident with Jack. We were in Vietnam flying patrols. For reasons unknown we were restricted from carrying side arms or any other type of weapon, but some of us did anyway. I thought it was a good idea so we would’t shoot each other. We were flying out of Tan Son Naut airport there in Saigon. This was our second time being there and we thought we would save some money by living in a tent on the base instead of a hotel out in town, bad idea. In this tent we secured it as best we could tying the door flaps shut, even putting a lot of our gear in front of it. And we nailed down the sides of the tent where we slept close to it. One evening at about 4:30 in the morning I woke up to a big commotion. There was a young boy maybe 10 years old standing in the center of the tent and Jack was sitting up with a small pistol right in his face. The kid, was standing there and screaming, “Shoeshine, shoeshine !! We could never figure out how he got into the tent. I can’t remember, but I think we turned him in to security just so he wouldn’t do it again to others. He was surly there to steal something.
Several of the old Crew 12 have been found and we will surely miss Jack. If any of us can be of assistance please call me at 858 566 – 4943. We will try to do whatever. Jack and his family will be in our prayers. God just needed a good electrician.
    With my sincere condolences
