John Benston

Sunday, July 31st, 2022

John Dean Benston, 66, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at home with his family and dog by his side.
John was born June 14, 1956 to Joe and Janice (Ammeter) Benston, in Burlington, WA.
He grew up in Burlington, graduating from B-EHS in 1974. After graduation he started working, stacking milk at Dairy Valley, washing cars, then eventually landing in a career of heavy equipment operation for Snelsons. John’s 35-year career in underground utilities with several companies took him all over the state and the US. He met many friends along the way.  In 2010 he went to work for Skagit Farmers Supply and quickly became friends with his coworkers and loved working there until his retirement.
When he wasn’t working, you could find him on the Skagit River fishing. John was an avid fisherman, taking anyone who was interested out in his boat. His favorite times were when Katie and Charlie joined him.  He was a lifetime member of the Wildcat Steelhead Club.
John is survived by his daughter, Katie (Zeke) Hargett of Sedro Woolley; son, Charlie (Kendall) Benston of Burlington; 5 grandsons, Jayden, Emmitt, Wyitt, John and Henry; his 45 year long special friend Cindy Reynolds; friend and mother of his children, Kelly Sundberg; several cousins; many friends and his faithful companion and dog, Lucky.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Janice Benston; brother, Jay Benston.

We would like to thank his caregivers; Delores, Angie, and Makoy for the kindness you showed him and helping us keep him home until the end.
John asked that there be no funeral, instead celebrate his life by donating to the ALS Association, Hospice of the Northwest, or an animal charity of your choice.  Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley.  Please share your memories of John and sign the online guest register.
