Joseph L. Young, age 73, of Sedro-Woolley went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was born August 17, 1935 in Van Horn, Washington to Vernon Moore and Lola Yeager Gillette.
He grew up in the Sedro-Woolley and the Clear Lake area and attended Sedro-Woolley High School. Joe served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956 and was a member of George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion. He worked in the woods as a logger and as a commercial boat builder for Roberts Boat Co. in La Conner. He loved hunting, fishing, barbequing and smoking scorch the porch, and the Fourth of July, especially the parade.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Angelita Young of Sedro-Woolley. Three daughters, Cherry Teresa Young-Armstrong, of Mt. Vernon, Tammy Birchall, of Shelton and Shelby Riley, of Shelton, and a son, Rick Young, of Sedro-Woolley. Ten grandchildren, Eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Two sisters, Cindy Diedrich and her husband Earl of Salem, OR, and Mary Ann Brode and her husband Sam of Sedro-Woolley.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Lola, his first wife, Barbara and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM, at the Saxon Cemetery in Acme, WA with Father Martin Bourke of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church officiating with Military Honors to follow. A Memorial Reception will follow 11:30AM at the American Legion Club, 701 Murdock St., Sedro-Woolley. Arrangements and Services are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
