Kathleen Shirley Iversen, age 86, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Washington. She was born May 1, 1921 in Lewiston, Montana to Patrick and Shirley Mathews Nihill.
Kathleen grew up in Montana, later moving to Peoria, Illinois and after graduation from high school, she moved to Seattle to attend the Cornish Art School. She was married to Iver M. Iversen on October 24, 1940 in Everett, Washington and in 1949 they moved to Sedro-Woolley.
Kathleen worked as a teacher aide for many years as well as being an Avon representative and in her later years, she worked as a care giver. Kathleen was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church of Mount Vernon.
She enjoyed art, fishing, crossword puzzles, and was an avid social dancer. Kathleen loved to drive and was especially known for always being available to drive friends and family to the airport.
She is survived by her children, Rick Iversen and his wife Ginny of Arlington, Kathleen Self and her husband James of Newport, TN, Nileen Brewer and her husband Dave of Sedro-Woolley, Andy Iversen and his wife Annette of Bow, and Susie Sipe and her husband Kevin of Venice, FL. 12 grandchildren including their spouses, Kelli and Shawn Sparks, Sherm and Summer Iversen, April and Rick Soria, Eric and Leah Iversen, Darin and Jennie Brewer, Robin and Keith Krolczyk, Craig and Colleen Iversen, Darick and Tawnya Brewer, Tina Wilhonen, Seager Sipe, Seri Sipe, and Hiromi Nara. 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Iver in 1962, a grandson Shawn Self in 2000, brothers, Albert and Tom Nihill and a sister Elizabeth Trudeau.
A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 11:45AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:15PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Mount Vernon with Father Martin Bourke as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology in Sedro-Woolley.
