Kendra Green

Monday, December 6th, 2021

Kendra Green, only 22 years old, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 in Auburn, WA. She was born to Dana Broadnax (Cagle) in Mount Vernon, WA on July 13, 1999.

She spent most of her childhood in Michigan but moved back to Washington with her family when she was in high school. She graduated from Hazen High in Renton, WA in 2017. She discovered early on that she loved taking care of children and worked at Bright Horizons Early Education and Preschool in Issaquah, WA for many years where she touched the lives of many co-workers and families.  She also had a creative mind with a passion for cosmetology and loved to do nails!

She was a free spirit and lived every day to its fullest. She loved her family deeply and shared an unmistakably special bond with her grandma Debbie and great-grandmother Eileen. In their eyes, she could do no wrong. She was and will always be a light in the darkness and an inspiration to all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Dana and Derrick Broadnax; brother, Daunte Broadnax; sister, Kenisha Green; grandmother, Debbie Boyd (Casey); grandparents Ronnie and Janice Broadnax; her aunts and uncles, Shane (Jordan) Turner, Haeli (Clay) Sacks, Derek (Heather) Cagle, Rhonda (Ron) James and Ronnie Broadnax (Tamarah Lucas);  cousins, Eva Turner, Cassius Sacks, Sady Cagle, Jalen Broadnax, Taleah Broadnax, Ronnie Broadnax III, and Tairyn Broadnax. She also leaves behind many extended family members who love and cherish her.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Kenny Cagle; great-grandparents, Ralph and Eileen Wartchow,  Jim and Mary Ellen Cagle.

A beautiful soul whose life on earth was cut far too short, she will be greatly missed by friends, family and all who had the pleasure to know her. Her spirit will live on forever in our hearts and through the beautiful memories we share.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the Lyman Baptist Church in Lyman, WA on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm.

While I am deeply saddened by the passing of Kendra,I hold memories in my mind of her, that when I recall them will always bring a smile to my face.I had the special honor of being a part of her early years having her in my preschool classroom. What a delightful and beautiful soul.I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her much as she grew to adulthood….but from what I know she had continued to be just as amazing.Kendra you will be missed. My heart goes out to you Dana and family. You will continue to be in my prayers.(Revelation 21:3,4)

  • Manuela Lehmann-Billingsley

I had the pleasure of working next door to Kendra for quite a while and since our classrooms were only divided by a shared bathroom for the kids, I heard her laugh a lot, I saw her be an amazing and fun teacher, I witnessed her dress up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 with Manelin, I know she enjoyed doing the children’s hair, etc. I will never forget how excited she got everytime she got her nails or hair done, got a new outfit, etc. One winter, she told me she didn’t have enough money to buy her family the presents she thought they deserved for Christmas, so she got a job at Panera in the evenings. I still cannot believe that her life was cut so short, but I take comfort in the fact that she lived life to the fullest. My thoughts are with her family.

When I first got together with her great Uncle Bob is when i met Kendra. I adored that little girl, so pretty, and so warm and accepting of her new Aunt. She grew up so fast, a beautiful young lady with everything to look forward to. Her grandma Debbie is my sister in law and when I became a grandma, Debbie would share stories with me about her and Kendras relationship seeing how similar it was to mine and my granddaughters, both the girls being our first. I cant imagine what your going through Debbie, and Dana and Derrick too, but from gramma to gramma, Debbie….oh, I am so sorry. Talk to me like we always have about her, and always know, your still her gramma. Condolences to everyone thats life was touched by this sweetheart of a girl….

    Kendra,
I am still in shock…my heart is shattered and goes out to your mother and your family. I pray for that they find comfort in knowing that they did a magnificent job raising a beautiful young lady. Your spirit was angelic. You was always so sweet and pleasant. I enjoyed your support whenever you were in the center (Bright Horizons Issaquah)…. most recently I enjoyed watching you transform into a woman and explore your artistic side through your Facebook post of your nails and lashes. I was slightly jealous that I was no longer in Washington to be a client lol. My ongoing prayers are with your family and friends💜

Kendra Green was an amazing teacher and human being. I cannot begin to tell you how unfair it feels to speak about Kendra in the past tense in this moment. She was taken all too soon in a car accident this week.

Kendra came to Bright Horizons Issaquah when we needed her the most. We were in a world of transition, with more and more children joining our school but not always having enough staff. When Kendra joined our team, I was able to breathe easier because she was there.

I can still see the way the children lit her up and brought out that big smile. Kendra was solid as a rock. She helped out anywhere, always up for anything. She was reliable, trusting, professional and easy to work with.

Kendra had a soft and steady way about her. Sometimes I would say something to Stacey Conant or Sarah Westling, not knowing anyone else was around, only to hear a soft chuckle coming from the workroom next door. Side note: I truly appreciate it when people laugh at my jokes, especially when there is no obligation to do so. 🙂

When things got tight and I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it through the day, Kendra was there. She would often come up to me at the front desk and ask, “Where do you need me?” She would go anywhere she was needed, and all the teachers loved having her in their rooms.

Many teachers requested having Kendra as their permanent co-teacher, even though Kendra preferred to remain free to come and go, giving her world-class support to whoever needed it the most.

Besides the kids, it was clear that Kendra also loved her family. Dana Broadnax was a colleague of mine whom I always respected, but damn, after seeing her daughter in action, my respect just escalated. Kendra loved her parents and her brother. It was clear that they were tight.

I guess if I could say one thing that was clear about Kendra, it’s that she lead life with love. The world, and the potential for the world, is not the same without her. ❤️
