Kenny Cuthbert, jr.

Kenny Cuthbert, jr.

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

Born November 20, 1957, Kenny passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2013 at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland.    Kenny is survived by his wife Dana, and three children, Megan, Kylie, and Spencer, his mother and father, Kenneth Sr. and Stella, brother, Rian and sister, Kelly, along with many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His sister, Cathy, preceded him in death.   Born in Mt. Vernon, Kenny was a third generation graduate from Concrete High School in 1977. Kenny loved the outdoors and lived life to its fullest. He worked for Pilchuck Contractors, and recently, InfraSource in Seattle. He was a devoted father and husband. Kenny was a river rafter – both as a guide and guide-trainer for many years. He was an avid golfer, and all around handyman and good guy. Kenny will be deeply missed by many.

A Memorial for Kenny will be held at the Upper Skagit Tribal Gym in Sedro Woolley on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Kenny’s name has been established at Chase Bank to support his children in their future higher education pursuits.

just heard the bad news a few days ago,Brett Collum called me. I’m back in North Dakota now and I was out in the barn tonight, one of my heifers just calved and I was thinking about the old days at mid mountain. I worked with Kenny for around 8 years he taught me allot, he was kind, understanding, hardworking, patient, damn good teacher, and gave this North Dakota boy some good tips on salmon fishing. always thought I’d make it back for a rafting trip with him and my girls. I’m so sorry for your loss me and my families prayers are with you.

Kenny was so naturally competitive. Football, raquetball, golf, snowskiing, whitewater rafting, He would do it all with a twinkle in his eyes that made you know he enjoyed life. Kenny was a great friend, my condolences to the Cuthbert family. He will be missed.

I have been privileged to have known the Cuthbert family for most of my 81 years. The very high character and respect of Pete and Alice seems not to have diminished over the generations. We add our prayers and best wishes.

Kenny was a good man and a good friend of mine. I first net him when I started out in natural gas work at Mid Mountain Contractors in the late 80’s and we had worked off and on together until 2011 at Pilchuck Contractors Inc. Rest in peace my friend.

    To the Cuthbert family,
We are very sorry for the loss of Kenny jr. . Wayne and I and Toppy and Sonny Brogge were friends of the Cuthbert Family and worked with his mother at N.S. H in Sedro Woolley in the late Fifties. We visited often even after moving from the area. Our prayers and thought are with them at this time.

Oh my gosh! Where do I start? I am so stunned and saddened.
Dana, Kenny was so perfect for you and you both complimented each other so well. I can’t even imagine the grief you must feel at this time. My heart breaks for you and your family. He was such a great and knowledgeable guy. I couldn’t have asked for a better whitewater guide instructor, because he made it easy for me and I felt confident after his training. As a friend, he couldn’t have been more fun always sporting that sweet smile. Oh, Dana, I am so sorry!!! I just want to hug you and not let go.
Kenny’s children, I didn’t know you but I want you to know that your father in a very short span of time touched so many people’s hearts and will always be remembered as a great man. You can be very proud to have spent the time you did with him.
Kenny, I would like to thank you for touching a small part of my life and imparting great knowledge to me. You were wise beyond your years and your wit will be missed. You left too soon and will truly be missed. Rest peacefully, Kenny.

Kenny, I’m going to miss you. More than I think I know right now. You were always there to lend a hand, to teach me so much about handyman tips and and clever shortcuts. You even taught me how to filet a salmon and not waste a drop. And your practical jokes, the best of which was at Patti’s Egg Nest restaurant–my family was in the middle of breakfast and suddenly this big arm reaches from the next table and takes my orange juice!! I’m wondering what in the world does that guy think he’s…?!? And then there was the Sunday afternoon when I was on top of the roof with a bunch of kids running around the backyard, and suddenly I hear my power saw go zoom zoom zoom zoom and I ran to the edge of the roof ready to scream at the kids, and there you are giggling and looking up at me with a prankster’s smirk, saying, “am I bothering you?” I wish we were going to have more of those moments. Maybe someday we will, my friend.

We are all still in a state of shock over Kenny’s passing. I worked with him thru his Pilchuck years and during his IfraSource time. I was also fortunate enough to raft and golf with him on his free time. We floated Titan in the Summer and the Green at Thanksgiving. He scared the heck out of us both times while having full control of the rivers and situations. “Never Give Up” I can still hear him say. I watched as he coached his daughter Megan during these rafting trips. similar to the way he coached fellow employees during the work week. He was always teaching both at work and at play. Megan will fall perfectly in his footsteps, as will the future fitters he coached. Thank you Kenny for all of the wisdom and great memories that you left with each of us with. We will never give up or forget you my friend.

I spent some time boating on the Sauk River with Kenny in the early 90’s. He was a great boater and a great human being with strong yet gentle energy.

What is the address for the Upper Skagit Tribal Gym?

  • Denise (Covert) Davis

To the Cuthbert family- I am so sorry for your loss. Keny was a former classmate with a great sense of humor and a beautiful soul. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.

  • Pam Lieser (Maranda Parson)

I am so sad for the whole Cuthbert family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
My older brother Ralph Lieser and Kenny were very close friends in high school. They played football together…were voted as Homecoming Royalty, were in Boy’s Club and went to Boy’s State, .at football games the family cheered as much for Kenny as we did for Ralph. My sister Debby and Kenny dated for a time…he was so handsome!! One special time was when the 3 of us Lieser kids were slid out of Diablo and we stayed with the Cuthberts. Then came a Chinook wind and melted several feet of snow and the rains were so heavy. The river was overflowing..and then there were several feet of water in Cuthbert’s front yard instead of snow. We spent the day rowing around in Cuthberts front yard.
    We will all miss Kenny.
Cuthbert family, please let me know if I can help at all, with anything.
Love to you all, Maranda (Pam)

Kenny was an amazing friend and man. I had the privilege of working with him over the last year. He taught me a lot he was more like a father figure than just a co-worker. He really took the time to teach me as well as be a great friend. He taught me so much and I am eternally grateful. I will truly miss my friend and “pops.”
