Lawrence William LaPlante, age 76, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Burtons Care Center in Burlington, Washington. He was born July 3, 1935 in International Falls, Minnesota to Donald and Vivian (Ponsford) LaPlante.
Lawrence grew up in Bremerton, WA, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1954. He moved to Seattle and later to California working as a chef in the restaurant business. He returned to Seattle and later moved to Skagit County in 1984 where he and his partner Einar Storakers operated the Conway Tavern for 6 years where they were famous for their “Champ Burger”. They later purchased the North Cascade Inn in Concrete on Hwy 20 operating it for 15 years.
Lawrence was very knowledgeable about plants, flowers, and trees and was quite a green thumb. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Concrete Lions Club.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Young, of Rockport and his partner Einar Storakers of Sedro-Woolley as well as numerous nieces and great nieces.
A Private Family Inurnment Service will be held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton at a later date. Arrangements and cremation are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
