Leonard J. Carlson, 76, a longtime Skagit County resident and businessman, passed away on January 22, 2016 in Goodyear, AZ.
Leonard was born on January 24, 1939 in Mount Vernon, the son of Joe & Anna (Granberg) Carlson. He was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1957.
On September 12, 1958 he was united in marriage to Gail Moritz and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley where they operated the Sedro-Woolley Greenhouse for many years and then Hart’s Floral in Mount Vernon, retiring in 1996.
Leonard was a longtime volunteer for the Sedro-Woolley Fire Department and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient from the Mount Vernon-Skagit Rotary Club. He enjoyed crabbing, hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer, making two hole-in-one’s at the Overlook Golf Course in Big Lake.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Gail of Goodyear, AZ; his children, Gina Williams (Paul) of Camano Island, Michael Carlson (Suzy) of Arlington and Mark Carlson (Brenda) of Camano Island; 10 grandchildren, Jillian Moller (Jeffrey), Wesley Armey (Ashley), Taryn Forst (Eric), Daniel Carlson (Stephanie), Erik, Karrisa, Joe and Brittany Carlson, Paul Williams (Bernie Ann) and Allyson Bazan; 6 great-grandchildren, Jenna & Ethan Moller, Carson Armey, Brenden & Lilli Williams and Nolan Bazan; his siblings, Marie Trueman (Richard) of Big Lake, Carl Carlson (Judy) of Arlington, and Alice Ann Maxfield (Ron) of Mount Vernon; his in-laws, Richard Johnson of Mount Vernon and Wayne & Becky Moritz of Eloy, AZ; special friends, Larry & Judy Nelson, Robert Leber, Stan Nelson, III, Gary Talbert, Dick Reim, Jim Scoular and Vincent Kempton; he was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Anna; grandson, A.J. Armey; brother & sister-in-law, Kenneth Carlson & Audrey Carlson-Johnson; nephew, Larry Trueman and his father & mother-in-law, Harry & Faith Moritz.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 12 noon at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center, 703 Pacific Street with Rosalie Robles, Federation of Christian Ministries officiating. Private inurnment will be at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. The family requests that donations in Leonard’s memory be made to the Sedro-Woolley Volunteer Firefighters Assoc., 325 Metcalf Street, Sedro-Woolley, WA, 98284.

My husband and I met Leonard and Gail through my daughter, Suzy. He was a very warm and friendly person. Always made me feel like one of the family. He will be greatly missed by all. You will always have great memories.
What a smile, what a laugh! I’m really going to miss our good friend Leonard. I’ll always have great memories of good times and great stories and experiences through Rotary.
