Luvena Groves

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023

Luvena Groves, 81, of Oak Harbor, Washington died Wednesday Aug 23, 2023 at home with her daughter and son in law by her side.

Luvena was born March 15, 1942 in Sedro-Woolley, WA to Jesse and Beulah “Dora” Poe and resided in Sauk, WA along with her sister, Jeanne.  They attended Concrete School District.

In 1960, Luvena married Dennis Klinger in Sedro-Woolley where they made their home and had three children, Tammy Mahoney (Michael) Oak Harbor , Dean (Erin) and Dale Klinger of Sedro-Woolley.

In March 1985, Luvena married Charles W (Bill) Groves.  They made their home in Burlington, WA.  Bill preceded her in death in January, 2000.

With Bill, her passion for animals was shared and they rescued and cared for dozens of dogs and cats over the years, giving them the best and loving home they deserved.  That passion continued until Luvena moved to Oak Harbor in 2021 to be closer to her daughter, with her still donating to many charitable animal organizations both local and afar.

Luvena’s illness made it difficult to get around but she helped as much as possible in the flower garden oasis Michael built around her home, and that was planted for her so  she could enjoy her many flowers, always joking “there was room for one more.”

Luvena’s incredible strength and determination carried her through many trials in her life.  She gained many “extra daughters” with Tammy’s village of “sistas” and loved deeply “bonus daughters” Lisa Moody and Shirley Kicklighter who were always there when Tammy couldn’t be.

Luvena is survived by her sister, Jeanne Russell of Burlington; children, Tammy, Dean and Dale; grandchildren, Joshua (Jodi), Raechelle, Brian (Jessica) and Patrick (Trish); also great grandchildren, Charlotte, Lewis, Alden, Tula, Hazel and Beatrice; nieces, Lori (Susan), Sandy and Kristi; nephew, Darren (Kathy).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Dora; husband, Bill; granddaughter, Lacey Kay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Because We Care Rescue in Burlington (bwcrescue.com) or Whidbey Hospice who were very wonderful in their care of her.  Luvena will be laid to rest at Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete, WA.  Please share your memories of Luvena and sign the online guest register.

Sorry to hear of Lavenna passing away. I knew her and Jeanie through my dad Jim Prices sister, Allie Poe who was married to Bill Poe. I live in New Mexico now. From the Price famiy of Lyman we send our prayers out to Jeannie & all the family.

My sympathies to the family. I knew your mom from working at the hospital. She was always laughing and smiling. May time replace your grief with fond memories.

We had the pleasure of meeting Ms Luvena three years ago and have thought of her so often with her daughter Tammy. She was such a lovely person and made us feel welcome and loved. Tammy was so very close to her mother and through Tammys and Michaels love and attention I’m sure she also felt very much loved and cared for especially after her move to Oak Harbor. Ms Luvena you will be missed but am sure you no longer feel the pain you experienced here on earth God bless you and the family. Tammy and Michael we love you!
