Marvin was born on March 17, 1930 in Thayer Nebraska, the son of John & Lorena (Pohl) Otte.  He was raised and attended school in Bradshaw, NE, graduating from Bradshaw High School with the class of 1946 and served as class president.

In 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korea Conflict.  He was decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.  He obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class.  After the war he returned to Nebraska where he was united in marriage to Elphie Hanson in 1952.  Together they made their home in southern California where they raised their 3 sons and Marvin worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. After his retirement they made their home for a time in Bend, Oregon until settling in Tucson, Arizona.  Elphie passed away in Tucson in 1996.  He married Ruth VanDeGriff in 1997 in Bullhead City and they lived in Tucson and later built a home in Sierra Vista, Arizona.  In 2000 they moved to the Skagit Valley.

Marvin enjoyed many outdoor activities, particularly fishing, hiking, camping and golf; he liked playing his guitars; he was very mechanical and could fix just about anything and he volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity building homes.  Marvin was very active in the churches he attended over the years and enjoyed teaching Sunday school.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Ruth of Sedro-Woolley, WA; his sons, Sandon Otte and Brian Otte and his wife Jean, all of the greater Phoenix, AZ area; Jim Otte and his wife Lynda of greater Seattle, WA area; a granddaughter, Olivia Otte, his stepsons Kevin (Brenda) Mitchell of WA, Chad Mitchell of WA, his sister Joyce Malin (Richard) of Vancouver, WA; 3 brothers, Robert Otte (Darlene) of Overland Park, KS; Ken Otte (Beverly) of Green Valley, AZ;  and Roy Otte (Delores), along with numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Otte and his parents.
