Mary Hilda Mefford, 92, of Birdsview, died July 11, 2011. She was born June 20, 1919, in Sylva, Jackson County, NC to Vance and Ellen (Woods) Hooper. She married James “Whitey” Mefford in 1941, living in numerous states, settling in the Upper Skagit. She was the owner/operator of Grandy Creek Grocery from 1965-1980.
Mary is survived by her son, David (Debra) Mefford, of Birdsview; grandchildren, Clint (Linda) Queen, of Mount Vernon, Eric Queen, of Burlington and James (Jamie) Mefford, of Lyman; brother Martin (Leller) Hooper, of NC; sister, Lucille Bryson, of NC and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Whitey”; son, Vance Mefford; daughter, Linda Sanders; brothers, Newell, Kenneth, Roscoe and Carr Hooper; sisters, Effie Stevens and Faye Dean.
A graveside inurnment will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Hamilton Cemetery, with Lemley Chapel arranging.
Peace to the family. I enjoyed visiting with Mary–first when Linda and I were growing up, and more recently when I visited my Skagit Valley family. You are in my prayers.
